Anil Swarup MD, FAPA
Anil Swarup, MD, is a psychiatrist specializing in children, adolescents, and adults. He is board-certified by the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology. A dual board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist has completed a minimum of five years of additional training in psychiatry after earning a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Swarup is also board-certified in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. As of 2025, there are approximately 9,500 dual board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists in the United States, which amounts to one for every 35,000 Americans. To maintain board certification, psychiatrists must engage in continuing medical education and undergo periodic re-examination.
Dr. Swarup completed his General Psychiatry Residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA, and his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He also served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. Since then, he has worked in various health systems in Hattiesburg and Jackson, Mississippi, as well as Dallas, Arlington, and Oklahoma City, successfully applying his evidence-based approach to psychiatry.

Dr. Swarup has also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas, TX. In this role and beyond, he has taught and trained UTSW Psychiatry Residents, UTSW Pediatric Residents, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellows, and Addiction Fellows.
